Post Embryonic Development and Egg Production in Oedaleus nigeriensis Uvarov (Orthoptera: Acrididae)

ABSTRACT: The post-embryonic development and egg production in Oedaleus nigeriensis Uvarov were studied in the laboratory at Obaferni Awolowo University, 1Ie-lfe. There were five nymphal instars for both male and female, while the nymphal periods were (9.90, 13.40, 14.80, 12.10 and 18.80) days giving a total nymphal period of 61.72 days. Adults laid three egg-pods per female with a mean number of 22 eggs per pod The present occasional pest status of the insect is discussed based on the data obtained.
