Studies on grasshopper damage on pearl millet, Pennisetum americanum (L)K. Schum
AMATOBI, C.I. and THAKARE, R.B.
ABSTRACT: The damage by grasshoppers on the seedlings and the grains of millet lines was estimated by
counting the number of seedlings and grains eaten while the percentage defoliation during the vegetative stage was estimated by measuring the leaf area consumed. The seedling and the vegetative stages of all the millet lines were susceptible to grasshopper damage, although there were differences in the amounts consumed. The percentage grain damage on the smooth millet heads was generally higher than that on the bristled heads and the correlation with the length of hairs was significantly negative.
