The effects of planting date and varieties on stem borer infestation and damage of pearl millet.
ABSTRACT: In 8 planting date trial conducted for three consecutive three years at Samaru, Nigeria, millet planted between 16 and 28 May (the first date of planting) was the least Infected and damaged by the millet stem borer , Acigona ignefusalis Hampeon. Infestation and damage increased on the subsequent planting. Of the three millet types grown In Nigeria, dauro was the most heavily infected and damage followed by gero while the least infestation and damage occurred on Maiwa. None of the varieties of millet tested was resistant to stem borer infestatlon or damage.
