Effect of some food plants on development and growth of gram pod borer Heliothis armigera (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidaei)

ABSTRACT: Heliothis armigera was reared on six food plants, chick pea, pigeonvsweet pea, tomato, sunflower and maize. The effect of these food plants on development and growth of the month was studied under laboratury conditions. Larval period, percentage of pupation and growth index values differed significantly among food plants. Pupal period was also affected by the food plants. Chick pea was found to be the most preferred food plant and sweet pea the least.
