The pattern of tsetse catches within 1973-1983 at Abuja, Niger State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT: This paper reports the catches of tsetse at Abuja out-station between 1973 and 1983 for the insectary at the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research (NITR) Kaduna, Nigeria. A study of the number of catches over these years has helped to produce the distribution curve showing the period of availability of both adult flies and the puparia. The adults, of which the males were more often in number, were abundant during the wet season with peak collection in June/July while the puparia were abundant in the dry season with peak collection in February. The presence of tsetse within the new Federal capital territory poses a threat to the local population.
