Comparative Effects of Isolation and Crowding on Larval Growth and Timing of Pupation of Trogoderma granarium Everts (Coleoptera: Dermestidae)
The effects of isolation and crowding on the growth and development of Trogoderma granarium Everts larvae were investigated under laboratory conditions
(28±2″ C, 70± 10% and 12L:12D). Head capsule increased under both conditions and reached a peak between the 20th and the 24th day after hatching. Larvae reared under crowded conditions were significantly bigger than those reared under isolated
conditions. However, larvae reared in isolation completed pupation on the 28th day after hatching while those reared under crowded conditions completed pupation on the 43rd day after hatching.
