Control of Thrips tabacci Linderman (Thysanoptera: Thripldae) on Onion (Allium cepa Linn.) in Sokoto, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT. Five onion, transplants were sprayed with A.-cyhalothrin (Karate 2.5EC) at 18.67g a. i. Iha (747mllha) from Jan.-May in 2002 and Dec.-May in 2003. Spraying was spaced at fortnightly intervals starting at 3 weeks after transplanting (WAT). Results indicated that unsprayed plots significantly differed (P< 0.05) from the sprayed plots in thrips population at 4, 6, 8 and 10 WAT. Two sprays significantly increased onion bulb yield by 39% in 2001/2002 whist three sprays increased it by 26% in 2002/2003.
