ABSTRACT. Ten sorghum (Sorghum bieolor (L.) Moench) varieties were infested with Sitophilus oryzae (L.) for 3 months in each of 2000, 2001, and 2002 to evaluate the effect of pest damage on protein content, determined as the, product of total nitrogen (obtained using Micro-Kjedahl method) and a factor of 6.25. Over the 3 years,, % total protein. in the uninfested grains steadily declined with increasing storage .duration whereas in. the infested -grains the values increased. The increase was attributed to accumulation of insect frass, exuviae and immature stages.
